    • Little Poppies

       

      home_little-poppies2In Poppies we aim to ensure your child is fully prepared to make the transition into the Reception year ‘big school’. We endeavour to promote exploration and discovery by making learning fun. Children here are aged between 3 and 5 years. We encourage children to grow in confidence by building on previous experiences and achievements by responding to individual needs. Poppies is divided into 2 groups the younger age group ‘Little Poppies’ and the older age group ‘Poppies Pre-School’ The younger group is based downstairs and has a free flow approach to the children’s learning, where upon the staff plan according to the children’s interest’s and deploy themselves accordingly to the activities the children wish to take part and investigate.

      Poppies pre-school is more geared for preparation for school and more group work getting them ready for a more ‘class’ like approach so when they start mainstream school they have a good knowledge and experience of how things flow during the day.

       

       

      Snacks / Milk bar. We offer the children snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon  on a snack bar system.  Staff will encourage the children to set up the snack bar and self-serve themselves encouraging independence and free choice. We offer a more independent service for the older children allowing them to choose if they wish to have snack, whilst the younger ones are encouraged to come along to the snack bar.  Both of the Poppies area’s has been carefully planned so that the children are able to explore every area of all activities planned and unplanned independently. Each day children are encouraged to develop new skills within our home corner, water play, ICT area, construction area, small world, mark making area, reading area and lots of singing and music and movement activities. All teaching is informal and our learning is done through fun-filled activities and play. Building a child’s confidence, self-respect and respect for others plays a huge part in the aims of our nursery. The children are taught to express their feelings and natural curiosity about the world and everything in it. We are sure your children will enjoy Poppies and more importantly the whole nursery experience. Each day is carefully planned and steered towards the Early Learning goals set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Activities are planned with children’s input and ideas, following interest and the next stages of development, also observations are written on the children and are used to plan for individual and group activities. Activities are exciting and enjoyable, feeding the children’s imagination and helping to develop their awareness of the world. While the emphasis is now on promoting learning, the atmosphere is now relaxed and the children still progress at their own pace. In Poppies children learn to take turns and work in groups as this is a vital skill to develop in preparation for school.  ‘Circle time’ at the beginning of the session really helps this and we encourage parents to put a ‘time to talk’ time into their child’s day at home. Parents often share with us what the child has discussed with them and we always include theses ‘home observations’ in their profiles. We encourage parental involvement in all our pre-school work and hope that parents will join in the fun and learning at home.
